Become A Poll Worker!Become involved in the election process! One of the most rewarding ways to become involved is to serve your community as a poll worker (or "Election Inspector" as the position is formally called). The City of Waukesha will need 3-5 Election Inspectors per polling place for the 2010 election season. We have a total of 15 polling locations throughout the City. Citizen involvement is essential in conducting open, accurate and fair elections. Responsibilities of an Election InspectorElection Inspectors conduct assigned duties at a polling site on Election Day. General duties include: organizing the polling place before the polls open; voter registration; assigning voters numbers in the poll books; issuing ballots, and assisting voters and providing instruction as necessary. Hours of WorkPolling places are open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Poll workers work a full day, generally from 6:30 a.m. until approximately 9:00 p.m. or later in the case of November elections. Breaks and lunch/dinner hours are allowed and determined by the Chief Election Inspector. For a busier election, you are encouraged to bring necessary meals with you. CompensationElection Inspectors are compensated for wroking at the polling places and for attending training sessions. The current pay for Election Inspectors is $7.50 per hour. Chief Election Inspectors with additional responsibilities at the polling sites are compensated at $8.50 per hour. Traning RequirementsThe City Clerk/Treasurer provides paid training. These training sessions last approximately one hour. Chief Election Inspectors are required to attend a paid four hour training session.
