Biography of Mayor Larry Nelson

Larry Nelson grew up in Milwaukee, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1972. He attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, earning a BS in English and Secondary Education in 1976.

Since becoming Mayor, Larry has been appointed to the U.S. Conference of Mayors Waters Council, by the Governor to the State Interoperability Executive Council, to the Milwaukee 7 economic development group, and to the Waukesha County Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. He also serves on the steering committee of the Waukesha Youth Collaborative and the Family Wellness Colllaborative. In 2009, he was elected President of the Wisconsin Alliance of Cities.

As Mayor, Larry chairs Common Council and Plan Commission meetings, serves on the Water Utility Commission and the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He has a passion for reading, writing, film, theater, art, music, and most of all, the great City of Waukesha.
