There are 5 main reasons for the Landmark & Historic District Designation Ordinance.  (Section 28.01 of the Municipal Code)

  1. To protect, enhance and perpetuate the City of Waukesha's cultural, social, natural, economic, political and architectural history as embodied and reflected in its improvements, landmarks, landmark sites and historic districts
  2. To stabilize and improve property values
  3. To foster civic pride in the beauty and accomplishments of the past
  4. To protect and enhance the City of Waukesha's attractions to residents, tourists and visitors and serve as a support and stimulus to business and industry
  5. To promote the use of landmarks and historic districts for education, pleasure and welfare
