Recruitment OverviewThe City of Waukesha Fire Department is a career department with 93 full-time firefighters and officers. We are a group of professionals, working together to save lives and property. We provide fire suppression, technical rescue, emergency medical services (basic and advanced life support), as well as education and inspection services. We respond from four (4) firehouses, protecting approximately 63,000 citizens in a 21.8 square mile radius. Firefighters receive 200 hours of basic instruction over a four week recruit program and an additional 200 hours of education and evaluation over an 18 month probationary period. Starting pay for firefighters is comparable to other similar departments with excellent fringe benefits that include medical and dental insurance, paid vacations, and a comprehensive pension and retirement package. Career advancement opportunities are available in the areas of fire prevention, administration, fire suppression, and emergency medical services.
