Prevention Bureau
Being proactive in the community to prevent fires from occurring in the first place is a continuing mission for the City of Waukesha Fire Department. In order to administer various proactive programs, the fire department has created an inspection and prevention bureau.
The Fire Prevention Bureau has many different responsibilities within the community. The Bureau's activities include:
- Conducting routine fire prevention inspections of all the industries, businesses, schools, parks, rooming houses, and community-based residential facilities that call the City of Waukesha their home.
- Overseeing the inspection of multi-family dwellings (anything more than two families).
- Conducting follow-up inspections for previous routine inspections that yielded multiple violations, or violations that are of grave concern.
- Research, design, implement, administer, and review various fire prevention education programs.
- Give fire safety speeches and presentations to community groups and individuals that request them.
- Administer a Juvenile Fire Setters Education (JFE) Program.
- Investigate fires in conjunction with the Waukesha Police Department
- Conduct plans review for planning commission items, building permits, sprinkler systems, automatic and manual fire alarm systems, automatic non-water-based fire suppression systems, and tank installations/removals.
These are just some of the things that we do in the fire prevention and inspection bureau. Our office also handles burning permits for City residents and we conduct occupancy inspections along with the building department.
Our Fire Prevention Bureau can be reached Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., at (262) 524-3648.
