Electrical Permits

All electrical work in the City of Waukesha requires an
electrical permit before any work is started!

An Electrical Contractor's License is required before you can do any electrical work at commercial or residential buildings in the City of Waukesha with one exception:

If you are a homeowner, living in the single family home within which you intend to do electrical wiring, an Electrical Contractor's License is not required.* An electrical permit may still be required however. It is customary for the Electrical Inspector to interview a homeowner who intends to do their own electrical wiring. If the Inspector is satisfied the homeowner can perform all electrical work according to City, State and National Electrical Codes, he will issue an electrical permit to the owner.

*A homeowner may not do any wiring associated with a pool, hot tub or spa.  An electrical contractor, licensed in the City of Waukesha, is required to do that type of wiring.
